American Sniper Directed by C. Eastwood
Hundreds upon thousands of Americans flocked to theaters to view the biographical war drama based on the real-life events of U.S. serviceman Chris Kyle. The story of the most dangerous and lethal sniper in U.S. history makes for a humbling and unforgettable film. This film highlights Chris Kyle's life in a way which brings patriotism to viewers eyes as well as depicts the true story of an American hero.
As all films based on a true story must do, certain events in Kyle's life have been negated due to the fact that a film is very difficult to produce; it would be nearly impossible for any film-maker to perfectly recreate the exact events of ones life without molding the story for a film. However, Clint Eastwood refused to taint the story of Chris Kyle; this based on a true story film does not alter the after-film perspective of this true hero.
Bio on Marksman Chris Kyle
Chris Kyle was a Navy SEAL marksman who's autobiographical novel lead to the production of a major Hollywood blockbuster film based on his true story. Kyle joined the Navy in 1999 at the age of 24. Quickly set apart from the rest with his excellent marksmanship, Kyle gained admittance to the elite SEAL Team 3 (Mooney, 2013). Over the course of his military career, Kyle served four combat deployments and gained more confirmed sniper kills (160) than any other sniper in American history. Kyle was so deadly that insurgents and enemy forces nicknamed him "the Devil of Ramadi" and put out a 20,000 dollar bounty on his head (Dockterman, 2015).
One of the hardest decisions Kyle ever made was to leave the SEALS and return to civilian life. He says in his book “I left knowing the guy who replaced me dies or messes up and if other people die, that’s on me. You really feel like you’re letting down these guys [who] you've gone through hell with” (Kyle, 2012).
Unfortunately, Chris Kyle was shot and killed at a shooting range in Texas while helping a wounded serviceman (Dockterman, 2015). Before his death, Kyle sat down and spoke to many media personnel in regards to his popular autobiographical novel American Sniper. Countless interviews with members of the media have been conducted, but none of these interviews were about the film; American Sniper was produced and released after the death of Kyle.
